Changes

Since the brand is being rebooted, there are several changes to the game, to Lara and to how the series is going to be portrayed and promoted. Below is a list of the changes announced by Eidos.

LARA

• Lara isn't always in charge, during the game she begins to find her voice and can stand up for her self, but at the start she is very dependent.
• Lara is 21.
• She is fresh out of the accademy

GAME

• The game will be a mixure of survival horror and action adventure
• Lara will have to use a climbing axe to scale a cliff face.
• The next game will be an +18

BRAND

• There will be no more official Lara Croft models.
• There will be a new voice for Lara.

Characters

LARA CROFT
Lara is back, and is younger than when we saw her last. The 21 year old is not a full Tomb Raider yet, but an archaeologist fresh from the academy. She's intelligent but she lacks experience. Lara also lacks confidence which is shown in the first few levels of the game. At the start she travels with a group on board the Endurance, a boat leaving Japan to reclaim some underwater artefacts. Things don't go all that well and Lara ends up alone and shipwrecked as she fights to stay a live on a mysterious island.

CONRAD ROTH
Roth gained his strength and no-nonsense attitude through two tours with the Royal Marine commandoes. Deciding to put his unique skills to use after leaving the military, Roth became a freelance treasure-hunter, scouring forgotten shipwrecks that litter the ocean floor for anything of value. Traveling the world, his reputation is for intelligence, toughness, and a tendency to bend laws that limit the traffic of historical artifacts. In order to secure a prize and do right by his crew, Roth will lie, cheat, and break the law.

MYSTERIOUS CREWMEMBER
In a recent podcast with Karl Stewart (Global Brand Director) he had admitted that although the character who saves Lara from drowning in the trailer is not Roth, they are someone important to the story. Crystal has stated that they might be releasing information of the character closer to the release date.

Lara's Bio

If you're reading this then you would already know that the brand is getting rebooted, and you would also know that Lara's biography is changing too, but don't worry because she's returning more to her Core Design roots. In the game Lara is 21 and is desperate to live up to the Croft name. At the moment it is unknown if Lara's parents are still alive or not, but since in Core's biography her parents die when she was 21 it's possible that it would happen after if that is the case it's not a very good year for our young heroine.

Lara is certainly thrown into the deep end it seems. Her presence on the ship was because of her dream to travel, and she is suddenly thrown into a dangerous situation, never the less this is the perfect place to have character development, and according to Crystal Dynamics this is exactly what is happening. The Lara that we see at the start is fresh out of the academy and has an innocent view of the world because of her age. During her trek across the island Crystal says that her innocence will be lose and she will become more like the Lara we all know and love
